On 40th Anniversary of Pope Paul VI’s Encylical On Contraception, Humanae Vitae, New Questions About “The Pill”

On the 40th anniversary of Humanae Vitae, Pope Paul VI’s encyclical on the regulation of birth, the Catholic Church has renewed its condemnation of the pill. Even one of the pills co-creators, questions its development, calling its effects catastrophic.
From CathNews.com:
Catholic News Agency details the claims by the president of the International Federation of Catholic Medical Associations, Dr Jose Maria Simon Castellvi, who outlined a series of scientific arguments said to confirm the prophetic nature of Pope Paul VI’s encyclical on artificial contraception.
In an article published by the L’Osservatore Romano, the Spanish doctor pointed to the Federation’s recent document commemorating the 40th anniversary of Humanae Vitae, which “irrefutably shows that the most widely used anti-ovulatory pill in the industrialised world, the one made with low doses of estrogen and progesterone, in many cases works with an anti-implantation effect; that is, abortifacient [effect], because it expels a small human embryo.”
Castellvi also pointed out that “this anti-implantation effect is acknowledged in scientific literature, which shamelessly speaks of an embryo loss rate. Curiously, however, this information does not reach the public at large.”
He also pointed to the “devastating ecological effects of the tons of hormones discarded into the environment each year. We have sufficient data to state that one of the causes of masculine infertility in the West is the environmental contamination caused by the products of the ‘pill’.” Castellvi noted as well that the International Agency for Research on Cancer reported in 2005 that the pill has carcinogenic effects.
After explaining that the “natural methods of regulating fertility are the ones that are effective and that respect the nature of the person,” Castellvi stated that “in celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of the Rights of Man we can say that the contraceptive methods violate at least five important rights: the right to life, the right to health, the right to education, the right to information (its dissemination occurs to the detriment of information about natural methods) and the right of equality between the sexes (responsibility for contraceptive use almost always falls to the woman).”
Co-Creator Says “The Pill” Has Brought “Devestating Ecological Effects” and Has Led To A “Demographic Catastrophe”

Carl Djerassi, the 85 year-old co-creator, of “the Pill”, now regrets the destruction wrought by his creation. He argued that in Europe there is “no connection at all between sexuality and reproduction.” He said: “This divide in Catholic Austria, a country which has on average 1.4 children per family, is now complete.” He went on to say that the fall in birth rate was an “epidemic” far worse than obesity.
“Increase Contraception and Abortion” To Fight Global Warning

Jonathon Porritt, to use this mother tongue, is daft or has drunk too much organic Kool-Aid. Porritt chairs Great Britain’s Sustainable Development Commission and is the former chair of the Green Party. In a report to be published next month, the commission states that contraception and abortion have to be at the core of the policies to fight global warming, Sarah-Kate Templeton reports for the TimesOnline.com.
“I think we will work our way towards a position that says that having more than two children is irresponsible,” Porritt stated. Adding, ”I am unapologetic about asking people to connect up their own responsibility for their total environmental footprint and how they decide to procreate and how many children they think are appropriate.”

Illinois Pharmacists Get Reprieve Over Abortion Pill

The Illinois Supreme Court revived a lawsuit filed by pharmacists over the dispensing of the abortion bill, A.K.A., the morning after pill. The high court said that the circuit court must consider the case, despite having refused to do so in the past.
The plaintiffs brought the case on freedom of religion grounds. In 2005, Governor Blagojevich issued a rule that pharmacists cannot turn away customers seeking emergency contraception. Pharmacists have argued that the rule forces them to choose between their livelihood and their religion.
“I cannot follow my religion’s teachings and continue to be involved” in emergency contraception, said pharmacist Luke Vander Bleek, 45, a Catholic who runs pharmacies in Morrison, Sycamore and Genoa.
Mark Rienzi, the attorney for the pharmacists, praised the ruling, stating “This says to all health care workers in Illinois, ‘You do have recourse. You can go to court to seek protection’.” Adding the rule required pharmacists risk losing their license “simply because they have religious beliefs that don’t fit with Gov. Blagojevich’s moral code.”
Supporters of the governor’s rule, including Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), believe the rule will withstand the challenge by pharmasists.
Blagojevich has said that pharmasists “should find another profession” if they did not want to comply with the rule.
